Hard to believe it is 2010. I keep thinking sci-fi movies when I see 2010.

Anyways! I am excited to see where this year goes. Even though everyone is still going strong in digital, I personally feel the need to go in the opposite direction. My love for photography is the mystery, ooo did I get the shot right? How is it going to turn out? I get so excited with polaroids that I kind of run around like a little kid who’s expecting Santa Claus. It is still hard to believe that Polaroid is not making polaroids anymore.
In my desperate attempt to cling to analog, I purchased Fade to Black film for my SX-70 (a little pricey if you ask me but … totally worth it, so my inner child tells me). I’ve picked up that camera and my polaroid pinhole more than my digital. And soon I’ll be throwing a ‘vest pocket kodak’ to the mix. Long live analog! Please? It’s a bummer that film is getting so expensive to use. No matter how cool the cameras get, how many megapixels they capture or how smooth the highest ISO is, it will never replace my love for film. I started out in the dark room and so many kids are missing out on that. My kids will probably not have that, especially my kids’ kids!
My parents had a lovely family over a few weeks ago, two young girls under 1o. I asked the oldest if she wanted to take a polaroid. She looked at me and with all honesty said, “What’s a polaroid?” I think my heart broke a little at that moment. I looked over at my boyfriend in total shock, “What does she mean, what’s a polaroid! … I can’t even believe this!” And she had no interest either. I think she would have been more interested in a digital camera. Sigh, kids these days!
I really hope that the impossible project brings back polaroids and keeps them around for a very long time. Because I don’t think I could live without polaroids.

I had a lot of fun running around shooting. It was nice to get into that routine! Now if I could only do this full time ;]

I am also happy to announce that I have a nice little part time job, thanks to a good friend. It’s nice to have something to do during the day (besides applying to jobs!). Plus I am learning a lot which is always good! I am grateful to be employed. I hope this changes my luck for the better.

So this becomes an exercise in patience. Patience to get a job, to earn money, to save it, and to buy the necessary tools so that I can start the cycle all over again! If you know me well, you know that patience is not my best point. I want to go go go! Waiting is boring. But sadly it is reality. I hope things pick up soon.

It’s nice for someone to break down the reasons to join. I myself would love to join and esp get the subscription to Photoshop user, but this one will have to wait along with the tripod. But I encourage you to join. It is important to be apart of organizations for professional photographers if you have a true passion for it.

The Impossible project‘s website goes over a lot, my favorite area is the 7 Challenges. It is interesting to read things that are changing/improving for the re-launch of polaroid type film. Now is the time to go out to local garage sales, thrift stores and your grandmother’s home to find SX-70′s!! I am sure after the film is re-launched they will become even more expensive and harder to find. I was lucky enough to receive one from my grandmother after she found out that I was mad about collecting old cameras, so I am very very excited for the re-launch of this film! If you have this camera or similar you can find manuals for free (a donation if you’d like to) here.
I wonder if this will spark a trend in going back to old analog ways that have been since replaced. To me, it seems like the more we will push to make things bigger, better and shinier the more people lust after how things used to be.
I know quite a few people I went to school with who loved the darkroom (really who doesn’t??) and did the majority of their portfolio in old school production. I am a fan of analog but sometimes it isn’t cost friendly or as easy to share like digital photos are. Hopefully someone will keep analog photography in all of it’s formats alive for a few more decades.

People around me have suggested I start my own business since finding a job in the “normal” workforce is proving to be difficult. As of right now, starting my own business doesn’t feel like the best option. But possibly down the road or as work comes to me I would be interested in having a small business in restoring old or damaged photographs. I think it would be fun, for me.

Also, soon to be uploaded is a Colorado calendar on redbubble. Keep an eye out for it.. should be arriving by the 20th or 21st.

Naturally I’m sure you’d also be curious to see work shot with polaroid film/cameras and here is just the place.
One of my favorites is a still life by LasseLiten #19. Love the warm tone, wilting flowers with a pear.. very simple. Kinda 70′s? An easy way to find it is in the search bar, type in “Flowers” and you’ll find it. Happy hunting :]

In the mean time you should check out Jay Kinghorn’s blog! He has some great shots up from his recent workshop in the East. Love the long exposure night picture where the clouds are smudged and you have that interesting balance between warm and cool light.

Also, if you are a fan of  polaroids (and weeping about their death just like I am), you should check out Poladroid. Digital way of making images look like polaroids! I’ve already made several of these (my Bf would know, he has a stack of them!) and love it almost as much as the real thing.

photographer [fəˈtɒgrəfə] n (Business / Professions) a person who takes photographs, either as a hobby or a profession. So everyone and anyone can be a photographer. A professional photographer uses photography to make a living whilst an amateur photographer does not earn a living and typically takes photographs for pleasure and to record an event, place or person for future enjoyment. But if anyone can do it, why not do it for a living? Or for benefits, eg getting into a football game on the sidelines, or even for free because you like doing it? How will professional photographers survive in these changing times? Tell me your thoughts.
